Abstract

Since decades, High Altitude Platforms (HAPs) have become appealing for holding wide area coverage facility. Therefore, in reality hybrid coverage area becomes under consideration. Simultaneously, dynamic nature of electromagnetic wave propagation over variety of horizon emphasized to model the propagation characteristics. In this paper, such a hybrid coverage area has considered where two distinct channel models are used to evaluate the system performance. There, hybrid coverage area consists of suburban and rural type of terrestrial characteristics. The channel models are, free space path loss and elevation dependent shadowing loss, implemented on a hypothetically designed system model accordingly. A brief discussion on elevation dependent shadowing loss model reviews the idea of statistically calculating shad loss. System parameters like HAPs antenna rolloffs and bore points are analyzed to seek for improved system performance. Likewise, different operating frequencies are evaluated to identify appropriate applications for the system. The simulation gives a set of enlightening results which keeps hope of providing services through HAP over hybrid territory.
